Highly Anticipated China-ASEAN Commercial Law Forum to be held in Nanning on September 25

2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 70th anniversary of the proclamation of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, the 30th anniversary of the promulgation of the Arbitration Law of the People's Republic of China, and the inaugural year for the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) to usher into a diamond crown new stage for development. At this important juncture, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the Peoples Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of 10 ASEAN countries will jointly hold the China-ASEAN Commercial Law Forum in Nanning on September 25, which will be co-organized by the Legal Affairs Department of the CCPIT, the CABIS Secretariat, the High People’s Court of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Department of Justice of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Administration for Market Regulation of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Federation of Industry and Commerce, and specially supported by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The rule of law advancing alongside openness forms the best business environment. At present, economic globalization is undergoing headwinds, and the world economy is at risk of recession, with instability and uncertainty significantly increasing. At the same time, multilateral regional cooperation rules, represented by the RCEP, are increasingly being valued by countries, bringing new prospects for global development. Developing legal cooperation under the RCEP framework, jointly advancing an open, fair, and transparent multilateral trading system, and establishing a rapid and efficient commercial diversified dispute resolution system are of significant importance for further optimizing the regional business environment, helping enterprises deeply engage in global industrial division and cooperation and enhancing the resilience of the global value chain, industrial chain, and supply chain.

China-ASEAN Commercial Law Forum of this year will serve as the special event of 2024 China Arbitration Week in Nanning. Leaders from the CCPIT, the Ministry of Justice of China, the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China, the China National Intellectual Property Administration, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, as well as leaders and representatives from judical organs of ASEAN countries will be invited to attend this Forum. Under the theme of “Embracing New Opportunities of RCEP and Creating a New Pattern of Legal Cooperation”, the forum will focus on new content of regional legal cooperation under the backgdrop of RCEPs entry into force, such as cross-border diversified dispute resolution and talent cultivation, and carry out exchanges and discussions on key topics of common concern between China and ASEAN, such as new economy and intellectual property. The forum will promote the establishment of arbitration collaborating institutions, the signing of cooperation documents, the release of guidelines for dispute resolution, to provide a solid guarantee for expanding exchanges and cooperation between enterprises on both sides, enhancing international business capabilities. It will further support Guangxi in steadily expanding institutional openness in rules, regulations, and standards, and create a favorable environment for domestic and international dual-cycle market operations and a preferred venue for resolving foreign-related civil and commercial disputes.

The China-ASEAN Commercial Law Forum is currently the only legal forum held during the China-ASEAN Expo and the CABIS. The forum has always focused on the hot issues of commercial law, continuously strengthened its functions and roles of serving economy and trade, and promoted the establishment of legal service and training institutions such as China-ASEAN Free Trade Area Nanning International Commercial Tribunal, China-ASEAN Procuratorial Information Exchange Center, ASEAN Trial Center of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, Guangxi Commercial Mediation Association, Commercial Legal Service Point of China Chamber of International Commerce Guangxi Chamber of Commerce in RCEP countries, China-Vietnam Commercial Legal Cooperation Committee Chinese Secretariat, Enterprise Compliance Training Demonstration Base (Guangxi). It has achieved a series of commercial legal achievements, which has attracted widespread attention.

This years China-ASEAN Commercial Law Forum will, in accordance with the new progress in regional cooperation, further promote practical cooperation between the business communities of China and ASEAN on commercial law, build an international professional platform of “promoting economic and trade promotion through legal cooperation and serving regional economic development”, improve the regional business environment to better serve the construction of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 and inject strong commercial legal momentum into the deep participation of regional enterprises in economic and trade cooperation and exchanges.
